Visiting My Folks

May 20th, 2012

In January I’ll be flying out to drop in on my mother and father in Lanzarote. They moved there once they’d stopped working, and they’re really enjoying the change of pace.
Their house is paid off, thus they can just unwind and spend their golden years in the sunshine. It is weird to see my dad that calm: he had always been tense and uptight before because of his job. Perhaps there is a chance for me too!

Last year I began angling, which is amazingly relaxing.
My friend had been telling me for a long time that there is little better than standing on a riverbank, waiting for a bite. I could not really see the appeal, to be honest, however eventually I I tried it. And I can safely say that I adore it. I fish most weekends, and although we put most of the fish back, I always keep one to grill on the barbeque for dinner.

In my more youthful days I would go on vacation with a big gang of friends each August, and we’d have a week of hedonistic insanity. They were tremendous times. We’d rent two or three villas in Corfu, and then each night one of the villas used to host a rave. Frequently by the end of the trip there were folk from everywhere in the local area turning up at the parties, holiday-makers and local people, and on the final evening we would always organise a huge clean-up, and everybody had to get involved.
By the time we were done, you would never have suspected the madness that had occured over the course of the vacation!

Now that I’m older, I like tranquil vacations, far from the busy resorts and other tourists. Whenever I am able to, I try to go somewhere with great landscape, so that I am able to take photographs.
I have enjoyed many fabulous vacations in the foothills of southern Europe, and I really like the tranquility of being by myself, in the midst of the countryside, simply soaking up the environment. It’s so far from the hectic speed of life in the UK, where I’m continually rushing from one appointment to the next.

Villa Nights

May 19th, 2012

I really do not like all-inclusive holiday deals, in which you are basically trapped in a resort for a week or two with just holiday-makers to talk to.
That is not my idea of travelling. And it is bad for the local economy, as the money which holidaymakers bring in does not go to the pubs or eateries in the village, but remains in the hotel. When I’m on holiday I love to travel round the area, to speak to locals and eat at restaurants they frequent.
That’s why I rent a villa when I’m abroad, where I’ve got someplace to prepare dinners utilizing locally-sourced ingredients.
The Menorca villa I hired a few years ago was vast, there was so much room in it that I might as well have brought all my relatives with me and they’d have fitted in comfortably.

If I’m holidaying I generally rent an automobile for the duration, meaning that I am able to drive round wheresoever I feel like going. I must say that I don’t like going up the little streets of Continental towns, in which you are regularly confronted by some madman going at 70mph on a scooter, however nevertheless it’s a great way to check out the countryside and have a look at the landscape.

I adore the blue sky which my holidays just about unfailingly provide, and when I get back to Blighty the gloomy, cloudy conditions make me miserable. If I was able to, I would move somewhere sunnier, but there aren’t any employment opportunities to be had in the south of Europe as it stands, and I get a decent wage therefore I can’t complain. Basically, I make enough money to travel to Menorca for my holidays!

I’m far from your standard British tourist, because I do not sit in the sun all day long going crimson.
I’m constantly amazed whenever I see pale-skinned people out in the sun-shine for ages, I don’t know why they believe it is a smart thing to do. In Menorca it’s pretty hot in the shade, and I don’t like slathering myself in sun-cream, and as such I am simply sensible and as a consequence I generally go home with a nice tan, rather than luminous crimson.

The Last Resort

May 18th, 2012

I really do not like all-inclusive holiday deals, in which you’re effectively trapped in a resort for a fortnight with just tourists to talk to. That isn’t my way of traveling. Plus it is not good for the local area, because the money that tourists bring in does not go to the cafes or shops in the town, but stays in the resort.
Whenever I’m on holiday I like to explore the area, to encounter the natives and dine in establishments they go to. That is the reason that I rent a villa when I am on vacation, where I have somewhere to cook dinners using regional produce.
The Menorca villa I stayed in last summer was huge, there was so much space within that I could have taken my entire family with me and they would have fitted in comfortably.

I adore the azure skies which my vacations nearly unfailingly provide, and when I return to The United Kingdom the slate-coloured, murky conditions make me miserable.
If I could, I would move someplace sunnier, but there aren’t any jobs to be found in Continental Europe as it stands, and I get a decent wage so I can’t moan. Basically, I make enough cash to go to Menorca for my holidays!

I’m hardly your standard English tourist, because I don’t lounge in the sun all day going crimson. I am continually amazed when I notice pale-skinned folk out in the sun-shine for hours, I do not understand why they think it is a wise move.
In Menorca it’s fairly hot in the shade, and I don’t like covering myself in factor 40, therefore I am just sensible and as a result I usually finish the vacation nicely tanned, rather than bright red.

When I’m on holiday I usually rent a car for the duration, meaning that I’m able to drive round wherever I fancy going.
I’ve got to concede that I don’t like driving on the little streets of Mediterranean villages, where you are frequently faced with some lunatic doing 80mph on a motorbike, but nonetheless it’s a good way to check out the countryside and have a look at the landscape.

Hiring a Villa 2

May 17th, 2012

I do not like package holiday deals, where you are basically stuck in a resort for a week with just tourists to talk to. That is not my idea of travelling. In addition it’s harmful for the local area, as the cash that holiday-makers bring in does not trickle down to the pubs or shops in the neighbourhood, instead it remains in the resort. When I am on vacation I prefer to investigate the country, to encounter locals and dine in establishments they frequent. That’s the reason that I hire a villa whenever I’m on holiday, meaning I’ve got someplace to prepare meals utilising local ingredients. I’m far from your quintessential English holiday-maker, because I don’t lounge in the sun from dawn til dusk going crimson. I am always amazed when I spot pale people out in the sunshine for hours, I don’t know why they reckon it is a smart thing to do. In Menorca it is fairly warm out of the sun, and I don’t like covering my body in factor 40, and as such I am just cautious and as a consequence I normally go home nicely tanned, instead of bright crimson.
